Air Conditioning Repair

AC with gages

HVAC systems are complex and require many properly functioning components, which means many components could need repair. However, if you watch for signs and stay alert about the function of your air conditioning system, you may be able to catch early signs before they become big problems.

Air Flow

Little to No Air Flow: Weak air flow is often a sign of an issue with the compressor or the ductwork.

AC Blowing Warm Air: Often a sign there is an issue with compressor or the system is low on refrigerant.

Unusual Sounds:

Clicking as the outdoor unit runs (Often indicates a slight obstruction in the outdoor units fan) Clicking and outdoor unit won’t turn on (Could indicate electrical problem with one or more system components). Clanging or banging sound from outdoor unit (Could indicate a significant obstruction or the fan mount may have come loose). Squealing sound from indoor unit (Most likely your fan belt is damaged and will need replacing before it breaks, leaving you with NO AC) High pitched hissing or screaming sound ( Usually indicates a problem with the compressor)

Increased Utility Bills:

If you notice a sudden increase in your utility bill this could indicate that your AC system’s efficiency could drop.

Age Of System

The last sign that your AC needs repair is the age of your current unit. Typically, fifteen to twenty years is a reasonable life expectancy for an air conditioning unit. A replacement system could be significant, but a new unit will function much more efficiently, save money on utility costs, and give you peace of mind.

Here are some basic HVAC things that every homeowner should know before calling in the professionals for an air conditioning repair service

  • How long has it been since you changed your AC filter? An old, clogged-up filter can restrict airflow and put a lot of strain on your air conditioner. It may be time for a replacement.
  • If you notice a build-up of ice around the AC unit, turn your AC unit on the fan setting for a while. This will give your unit time for the ice to melt so the technician can correctly diagnose the issue.
  • Do you see a lot of dirt and debris built up around your unit that may prevent or constrict proper airflow? If so, clear a few feet of space around your unit of debris buildup or overgrown vegetation
